We finally got our first in-depth look at Warzone’s new map, Area 99, at CoD Next ahead of its arrival in Black Ops 6 Season 1, but you might be wondering how big it is compared to the game’s other maps.
The latest Resurgence map dives into the backstory of Nuketown, one of the most well-known locations in the entire Call of Duty series. It features many POIs, such as Nuketown Shipping and Mannequin Assembly, but players have already expressed concerns about the scale of it.
So, here’s everything we know about the size of Area 99 and how it compares to other Warzone maps.
Area 99 map size in Warzone
Area 99 will be roughly the same size as Rebirth Island, as confirmed by the devs during the CoD Next livestream. While we don’t have an exact number, it will be “very similar” to the estimated 152,865 m² of the OG Resurgence map.
Resurgence is all about dropping players into the action straight away without long stretches between fights, so these maps are always more compact than the main BR battlegrounds. Lead Level Designer, Brittant Beildleman, said that the aim of Area 99 was to bring the “fast and frenetic” gameplay of Nuketown to Warzone, which also explains the smaller size.
That being said, while the surface is very similar in scale to Rebirth, the new map also has a lot of tall buildings for extra verticality. Plus, the Reactor in the middle goes deep into the ground and leads to a network of tunnels, so it appears to be quite dense despite the tiny area.
