CoD players fear “tiny” Area 99 map will be Warzone’s Shipment

Warzone’s new Area 99 map was officially unveiled at CoD Next and players are already worried about the map’s size, with some comparing it to Shipment.

Releasing alongside Black Ops 6 Season 1, this new battleground is Treyarch’s take on a Resurgence map, as it explores the origins of the iconic Nuketown which first appeared back in 2010’s Black Ops. Area 99 is the nuclear test site where Nuketown was created, with POIs like Mannequin Assembly and Test Site.

While players are eager to discover the backstory of one of Call of Duty’s most recognizable locations, some have expressed concerns about the new map. The biggest worry appears to be its size, as many replies to a Reddit post by ‘Masteroogway7207’ were concerned it won’t be big enough.

“Looks so small and not much area really. I hope I’m wrong,” said one player, before another added, “Always wondered what Warzone on Shipment would be like.”

Another fan commented on the “tiny” size and layout, agreeing that it almost feels like a Black Ops 6 map: “I’ll keep an open mind until I actually play it but I’m concerned it looks too linear like a multiplayer map. I hope the bigger buildings give it verticality and depth.”

During the CoD Next stream, the devs confirmed that Area 99 is around the same size as Rebirth Island, which is currently the smallest map in Warzone’s history.

However, it wasn’t just the size that players were concerned about, as others criticized its look and setting. Replies to an X post from CharlieIntel accused the map of being “bland and dusty” with a “washed” color palette. Some even claimed it looks “trash” from the early footage that’s been shown.

“Man, screw this map. I’m so tired of being in a desert. Idk anyone who preferred it over varied terrain and mixed urban maps,” said another response.

We’ll have to wait until Warzone integrates with Black Ops 6 in Season 1 to see exactly how Area 99 feels in action. But, if you’re one of the players who isn’t sold on the new map, you still have Urzikstan Ranked Play and the return of Verdansk to look forward to.
