Warzone Area 99 map – Everything we know so far

The Call of Duty Next event is fast approaching and you’ll soon get a first look at Black Ops 6 multiplayer as well as a new Warzone map called Area 99.

The future of Warzone following Black Ops 6’s arrival is shrouded in mystery, but the devs are starting to peel back the curtain. Promotional images for the new Area 99 map have seen the light of day, but what else do we know about the new Warzone map?

What is Warzone Area 99 map?

Area 99 is an upcoming Warzone map that’s tied to Black Ops 6’s cycle. There’s currently very little official information about the new battleground, but leaks have shed some light on what to expect.

The first official images of Area 99 arrived on August 22 courtesy of the Call of Duty Instagram account. The early images feature what looks to be an industrial area with plenty of buildings and sand scattered across the ground.

Is Area 99 a Resurgence map?

Area 99 will be Warzone’s new Resurgence map according to leaks.

Several leakers such as HeyImAlaix and TheGhostOfHope have referred to Area 99 as a Resurgence map. The original rumor was that a reimagined Verdansk would debut alongside Black Ops 6, but leaks have since explained that the classic big map is set to return later in BO6’s live service cycle.

When is Area 99 coming to Warzone?

Leaks have revealed that Area 99 will launch alongside Black Ops 6 Season 1. There is currently no date slated for the first live service season, but if rumors are true, you’ll receive the new Warzone map at the start of the first season.

According to HeyImAlaix, Area 99 will replace Rebirth Island at the start of BO6 Season 1, with Fortune’s Keep remaining in the Resurgence rotation.

Developers

According to the wording used in the Area 99 promotional image for CoD Next, it’s safe to assume that Treyarch developed the new map. Call of Duty used the words “new map premiere with Treyarch,” revealing that the lead studio behind Black Ops 6 also led the development of the new Warzone map.

While we’ll get the full details on August 28 at CoD Next, it’s likely that Raven is involved with the map to some extent as the Warzone promo image also contains “game features deep dive with Raven.”

How to watch reveal

You’ll want to tune into CoD Next on August 28 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST to watch the Area 99 reveal. The devs are planning a major reveal at the highly-anticipated showcase for Black Ops 6.
