Sledgehammer Games developed 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 title and a report has now revealed that the studio is set to return for the next time to lead development of the Call of Duty 2027 title.
Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 Reloaded brought the highly anticipated Ranked Play mode to the game. Despite new features consistently arriving, Call of Duty fans are always looking ahead to what’s in store for Call of Duty 2024, Call of Duty 2025, and so on.
A January 24 report from industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed that the lead developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, will only be back to lead a project in 2027. Henderson claims that Call of Duty 2027 will be developed by Sledgehammer Games and that Infinity Ward will lead the charge for Call of Duty 2026.
The report features details about Sledgehammer Games relocating to a new office: “Sledgehammer Games will be closing its main office in California to relocate to a smaller office space, Insider Gaming has learned.”

It seems not much has changed in terms of the development of future Call of Duty titles following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision.
Here’s a breakdown of the rumored developers for the upcoming Call of Duty titles over the next few years.
- Call of Duty 2024: Treyarch
- Call of Duty 2025: TBD
- Call of Duty 2026: Infinity Ward
- Call of Duty 2027: Sledgehammer Games
At the moment, no studio has been rumored or leaked to be leading the development of Call of Duty 2025. It remains to be seen who will take the lead, but we’ll keep you posted if anything comes to light.
The Insider Gaming report claims that “Infinity Ward will be heading Call of Duty 2026,” and that it’s “understood to be in the Modern Warfare universe.”
