Secret Warzone fall damage nerf makes meta Perk even more OP

Mountaineer allows Warzone players to fall from greater distances without dying, but after a hidden nerf to fall damage in Season 5, the Perk has become even more OP as you can now survive 100-meter drops.

Now, players can use Mountaineer to fall from extended heights without taking damage and can survive falls from longer distances so long as they deal with the stun and damage taken.

Popular Call of Duty content creator IceManIsaac broke down the specifics, as he explained that fall damage activated began at 6.5 meters before the update, and you would die after a 13-meter fall. With Mountaineer, this was buffed to 13 and 26 meters respectively.

Now, these numbers have jumped up, as without the Perk, players can survive drops of up to 16 meters, and with Mountaineer, this goes all the way up to 34 meters.

That’s an eight-meter increase, which means you can now survive jumping from across all the Warzone maps that would have killed you previously, even if you were running the Perk.

The Perk also now allows players to fall from up to 15 meters without taking any significant damage, which is huge for plays where you need to get away quickly after taking some damage and don’t want to pull your parachute.

It gets even better though, as IceMannIsaac discovered that skydiving fall damage is velocity-based, and you can reduce your velocity by pulling back away from the ground with your right stick (or down movement key on m&k).

IceManIsaac showed multiple clips of them falling from up to 50 meters high without Mountaineer and surviving by doing this pull-back technique. However, he claims that with the Perk, you “never have to pull your parachute” as long as the drop is within 100 meters.

It’s not clear if this new technique was made more powerful with the fall damage nerf, but it means you can play more aggressively when redeploying and dropping from greater heights now. That said, you’ll still need to measure the distance and keep fall damage in mind, as it will put you at a severe disadvantage when initiating a gunfight.

IceManIsaac believed it’s a great change to movement and traversal, as he felt the parachute animation is awkward and this gives players more freedom in their decision-making.

It’s unclear whether this technique and fall-damage nerf was intentional or not, but IceManIsaac doesn’t want the devs to remove it. We’ll have to wait and see if Activision decides to address this in a weekly update or the next major patch, Season 5 Reloaded.
