Warzone returns to classic Perk system with Black Ops 6 overhaul

Warzone is set to integrate with Black Ops 6 in Season 1 and the merging of the two games will bring a major Perk rework to the Battle Royale.

Perks are an essential part of any Warzone loadout, offering buffs and bonuses that give you an advantage over the competition. However, a handful of meta options tend to dominate matches and leave others hardly being selected.

With the release of Black Ops 6 and its integration into Warzone, the devs confirmed at CoD Next that they’re looking to address this by introducing a major reimaging of Perks.

This starts with the return of the Pick 3 system, reducing the number that can be selected in loadout by one. Also, the total number of Perks will be cut down to 18, far less than the 29 that are currently available to choose from.

Of these 18 different options, five are brand-new additions that haven’t been seen in Warzone before. Meanwhile, others combine the effects of multiple less-used Perks into one in an effort to make it worthy of a slot in your loadout.

For example, Tracker and Combat Scout have been combined into one Perk, and a new pick called Sprinter essentially combines multiple movement Perks into one by granting unlimited Tac Sprint.

The aim is to make each individual Perk more valuable on its own, rather than having to stack them together to create a powerful build.

It was also confirmed that the lineup of Perks per slot will let you choose a specific playstyle, whether you prefer buffed movement, greater awareness of your surroundings, or extra survivability.

While all of these changes apply to your custom loadout, there will also be specific Perks available as ground loot. These include fan favorites like Tracker and Cold Blooded, while Shrouded and Irradiated will only be lootable and won’t be included in the 18 main Perks.

Despite so many changes, Perk Packages are returning in Warzone after it integrates with Black Ops 6, albeit in a reduced role. The Specialist Package will still be found around the map to grant you every Perk at once, and killed Operators will also drop their custom setup as a Perk Package.

Only time will tell how these changes affect the flow of matches, but it’ll be interesting to see how the meta shapes up once players get to grips with the new system.

Black Ops 6 is also bringing plenty of other changes to Warzone, including revamped movement, a ton of new weapons, and the Area 99 Resurgence map.
