OG Warzone SMG loadout returns to meta after major buffs

The MP7 is one of the most OG SMG metas in Warzone, as it previously dominated back on Verdansk. It’s been out of favor for the majority of Warzone since returning as the VEL 46 in MW2 (2022), but thanks to some buffs in the Season 5 update, it’s climbed its way back to the top.

Warzone’s Season 5 update buffed the VEL 46’s damage and modifiers to make it more effective than meta options such as the Static-HV and AMR9.

The buffed MP7 has a similar feel to the OG Warzone one, with a fast fire rate, easy-to-control recoil, and decent damage that can even drop enemies at medium ranges so long as you can stay on target.

One of the nicest things about the VEL 46 is that the iron sights are extremely clean, so you don’t have to waste an attachment slot on an Optic. This allows you to add an attachment elsewhere, making it highly customizable.

The major downside is that it’s from MW2, so it naturally feels a little less mobile than MW3’s guns. However, this can be easily balanced with some attachments that improve handling and mobility.

Popular Call of Duty YouTuber WhosImmortal also used the MP7 (VEL 46) in his August 11 video, where he was pleasantly surprised with just how great the SMG’s damage is after the Season 5 buffs.

“From a damage standpoint, it actually felt pretty good, I was getting a lot of kills I wasn’t expecting to get,” said WhosImmortal. He also highlighted the weapon’s easy-to-control recoil as a significant reason as to why the VEL 46 is a top choice in Season 5.

Much like the OG Warzone MP7, the VEL 46’s recoil is smooth, as all you need to do is pull down on it to control the gun and stay on target.

So, if you’re looking for a new close-to-medium range SMG after the Superi 46 nerfs, this could be the gun for you, especially if you enjoy Resurgence.
