A new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 cheat tool is allowing hackers to disconnect other players mid-game, sparking outrage among the community. Both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone have been at the center of controversy in recent months as the number of hackers and cheaters continues to rise. While publisher Activision has updated its Ricochet anti-cheat program multiple times in recent weeks, issues remain prevalent.
Call of Duty recently released the highly-anticipated Season 2 update for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, with even further improvements to the series’ anti-cheat system known as Ricochet. In a recent community update, Activision revealed that the launch of Season 2 would address a variety of different issues related to cheating in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, including improved client and server-side detections and systems, major kernel-level driver updates, improvements to driver security, reinforced encryption process, and a new tampering detection system. The studio also said that Season 3 and beyond would introduce a brand-new system to “authenticate legit players and target cheaters.”
Unfortunately, despite the continued updates to Call of Duty‘s Ricochet anti-cheat system, cheaters are still finding new ways to cause carnage in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The latest major issue to arise was recently posted on Twitter by user ItsHapa, who revealed that a new cheat tool now allows hackers to disconnect any player from the game while in a match. The video shows a hacker using the tool to boot players from the lobby. After going through the entire enemy team, a countdown then begins with the message “enemies forfeiting,” showcasing the worrying effectiveness of the tool.
With both Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play currently infested with cheaters, fans aren’t happy with even more cheating issues appearing. Twitter user Jeremy Miller said that Call of Duty has “absolutely zero controller over its own game” and called the situation “laughable.” Others, such as Trevor Allen, said that things are getting “out of hand.” Activision has not addressed this specific issue but has said that it “is not slowing down” in its mission to shut down cheaters whose only mission is to ruin the fun for everyone else.
Although the reason will vary from player to player, the sharp decline in Call of Duty players on Steam is speculated to be largely down to the ongoing cheating issue in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. While the former was a big success at release, with Activision stating that it was the biggest launch in Call of Duty history, Steam has seen a decline of almost 50% since Black Ops 6 was released. While Season 2 had the potential to bring back many of its lost players, Steam only saw a peak of 84,431 users for the update’s release, while 2023’s Modern Warfare Season 2 update brought in 154,491 players. The over 70,000 difference in players shows that the community needs to see some big improvements before returning to the title.
