Update: PSN services are back online as of February 8 at 8 pm EST.
PlayStation players feel cheated out now that they can’t access Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone‘s Double XP weekend. While players can make decent progress on most days with a couple of matches, Double XP weekends are usually accompanied by big events that entice people to try out Call of Duty. PlayStation players are in an unfortunate position.
A new Black Ops 6 and Warzone Double XP event has launched, giving players until February 10 to enjoy the progression boost. In addition to doubled player and weapon XP, the Gobblegum earn rate has been boosted. Furthermore, Multiplayer and Zombies are offering all participants a limited trial for a selection of maps. Because there’s so much going on right now in Call of Duty, having access to functioning servers is important. However, an entire section of the game’s player base doesn’t have much of a choice in that matter.
While PC and Xbox fans take advantage of Call of Duty‘s Double XP weekend, millions of PlayStation gamers are missing their opportunity thanks to the recent PlayStation Network outage. Gamers have taken to social media to voice their frustration, noting that since every other platform is functioning perfectly fine, they feel cheated and left out. Some users on Reddit, like Jelly-Kat, commented that they’ve spent the time they were going to use to playing Call of Duty lying in bed and staring at the ceiling.
PlayStation Outage Ruins Double XP Weekend for Cod Players
The live-service aspect of games like Call of Duty has taken the industry by storm, but this event is making many people push back against the idea that things need to be this way to enjoy their favorite video games. Some have tried to switch to single-player, figuring that if they can’t do anything online, solo might still be entertaining. Those people have been met with a screen telling them there’s “no game available to play while offline.” A growing number of Call of Duty fans are saying that regardless of whether the experience is focused on Multiplayer, people should always be able to access their campaign offline. This has led to people questioning other standards for Call of Duty.
Now that people are bringing up their dissatisfaction with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6′s always-online requirement, they’re starting to wonder why the game’s file size is so big. Many gamers might have switched to a different title, but there’s only so much space on a standard PlayStation 5 hard drive to use. Call of Duty takes up anywhere from 137 to about 300 GB of the PlayStation 5’s 667 GB of usable storage. If a player has at least one other large live-service title like Fortnite downloaded, there’s not much else for them to play offline.
