Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Teases New Weapon for Season 5 Update

The first official teaser trailer for Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone has seemingly confirmed that the M249 SAW, a powerful LMG seen in many other Call of Duty titles, will be making a triumphant return in the new season. While it has yet to be officially confirmed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 developer Treyarch Studios, the iconic weapon can be seen briefly in a new teaser trailer for Season 5, likely hinting at its return either at launch or in the mid-season update.

As of writing, there is no confirmed release date for Call of Duty‘s big Season 5 update. However, if the game’s usual release schedule is anything to go by, the new season will likely drop on August 7. With just a few weeks to go until Season 5 rolls around, publisher Activision has now begun the marketing cycle for the big update. Late last week, the studio took to social media and briefly teased a new collaboration with horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. Although it was not explicitly stated that the collaboration would be released with Season 5, it seems unlikely that it will make its way into the game in Season 4’s final few weeks.

Call of Duty Keeps Setting Battlefield 6 Up For an Easy Slam Dunk

Call of Duty’s recent controversies around identity are hard to ignore, giving Battlefield 6 one easy area to capitalize on for a big win.

Earlier this week, Activision continued its marketing for Season 5 by releasing a short teaser trailer, and some eagle-eyed fans notcied that the M249 SAW LMG briefly appears toward the end of the video. While it’s not outright confirmation that the weapon will return, Activision has done this exact same thing in the past, just before Verdansk was due to return to Warzone in Season 3. As for when fans will get some sort of official confirmation surrounding the weapon’s return, that likely won’t be for another couple of weeks. Activision usually waits until a few days before the update is set to go live to publish its full breakdown, which will then be followed by the patch notes.

Call of Duty Teases Return of M249 LMG for Season 5

Although fans will likely be pleased to see another LMG thrown into the mix, it hasn’t been that long since the M249 was last seen. The weapon has appeared multiple times since Call of Duty‘s inception, and was most recently part of Modern Warfare 3 as the Bruen Mk9. It may no longer be a viable choice to use in Call of Duty: Warzone, but the powerful, fully-automatic LMG will likely soon be one of the top weapons of choice for players when it makes its return in Season 5 next month.

With Season 5 now right around the corner, fans will be eager to finish leveling up their Season 4 Battle Passes before time runs out. The good news is that Treyarch Studios recently confirmed another Double XP event for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The Double XP weekend will kick off on Friday, July 25, and likely run up until Monday, July 28. It’s currently unknown if there will also be Double Battle Pass XP during the event, but with the current season in its final few weeks, it’s likely that Treyarch will be going all out for the event.
