Black Ops 6’s popular Theater Mode won’t be available to everyone

Treyarch announced that the fan-favorite Theater Mode feature in Black Ops 6 will not be available for those on PS4 or Xbox One.

Theater Mode finally returns in BO6, which is a feature that Call of Duty fans have been dying to have back. It allows players to revisit games from a different angle, making it much easier to capture clips and save your best matches.

The mode provides players with a variety of viewing options, including the ability to pause, play, slow down, speed up, and even take screenshots of gameplay. However, it’ll be exclusive to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series XS, leaving those on the previous generation of consoles without it.

For the most part, PS4 and Xbox One players will be able to enjoy Black Ops 6’s multiplayer in its entirety, from all the weapons and progression rewards to every map and game mode, but they’ll miss out on Theater Mode.

This may not seem like a big deal to some, but for those familiar with the feature’s popularity, it’s a pretty big miss. PS4 and Xbox One players have been reacting to the news under CharlieIntel’s X post about the feature’s absence.

One comment read, “Totally disappointed,” as they asked for an explanation. Most seem to think the devs skipped Theater Mode on old-gen consoles due to hardware limitations.

These consoles are quite dated now, and modern CoD titles are constantly innovating and taking advantage of new hardware that comes out, so it’s an understandable explanation.

As one user said, “It’ll [have] to do with the last gen’s storage/processing bottlenecks. Without knowing the ins and outs, I’d say it takes quite a lot of power to be able to store and play back complete 3D replays.”

Others in the comments can’t believe that the game is even coming to PS4 and Xbox One, let alone missing out on Theater Mode.

Future Call of Duty titles likely won’t be able to support a PS4 and Xbox One release as they continue to take advantage of the improving hardware. For now, old-gen players will have to make do without the fan-favorite feature.
