Black Ops 6 features plenty of Perks and Field Upgrades to give you an advantage, many of which will be on display during the beta. But Sleeper Agent, in particular, looks like it could cause absolute chaos − as it stops you from trusting who’s on your team.
Treyarch’s next multiplayer is set to look and play very differently from Modern Warfare 3. Partly because of the new movement and guns, but also because of the unique vibe that the Black Ops series is known for.
BO6 will be heavily inspired by action movies and espionage thrillers, and that can clearly be seen in the new Sleeper Agent Field Upgrade. Deploying this item disguises your character as a member of the enemy team, with each kill extending its duration.
During this time, even your name will appear in blue above your head, tricking the other players into thinking you’re friendly.
After streamer ModernWarzone shared a clip of it in action, players weren’t happy about the prospect of having to check over their shoulders.
“It’s still a stupid idea. Why do they add stuff to the games every year that NOBODY ever asks for?” asked one player, while another agreed: “This is one of those concepts that sound cool when you first think it up, but in practice, it’s 100% horrible.”
Others added that Sleeper Agent is “guaranteed to make people rage” when they’re unexpectedly gunned down by what they thought was a teammate.
While this will no doubt be useful in core modes, it could cause carnage in Hardcore where friendly fire is enabled. Knowing there’s a chance that an enemy could be disguised as an ally will no doubt lead to any suspicious-looking teammates being killed as a precaution.
Plenty of replies to ModernWarzone’s post agreed, with one player predicting: “Hardcore friendly fire is going through the roof now.”
Luckily, there is a way to counter the Field Upgrade’s effect. If you run the Vigilance Perk, which is also available in the beta, then you become immune to the effects of Sleeper Agent, as well as Counter UAVs and Scrambler.
