Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s fifth season will arrive on August 7, 2025. While Black Ops 7 has taken much of the spotlight lately, support for the current Call of Duty generation is still ongoing, and fans still have more to look forward to in the game. In a little over a week, the somewhat controversial Season 4 will come to an end, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 5 will begin.
The past season has not been a huge success for Activision. While Season 3 was met with praise and excitement, Black Ops and Warzone fans called Season 4 a dumpster fire, citing a slew of bugs, crashes, in-game ads, and unpopular gameplay changes. Whether the upcoming season will live up to the game’s previous standard is unclear, but at least players won’t have to wait long to find out.

Call of Duty Update Removes Controversial Feature in Black Ops 6 and Warzone
A controversial feature added to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone’s Season 4 update has been promptly removed.
The official Call of Duty Twitter account posted on July 28 to confirm that Season 5 would come to Black Ops 6 and Warzone on August 7. The brief but informative update also confirmed that Sims would be returning as an operator, and the accompanying image shows Sims carrying the M249 SAW. Activision had teased the M249 in a Black Ops 6 Season 5 trailer, but now that it graces the key art for the season’s official announcement, any uncertainty about the LMG’s return to the series is all but dispelled.
Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Begins August 7
A nine-second teaser from Treyarch on July 23 also hinted at a new map for Black Ops 6‘s Zombies mode, which is a welcome addition considering Season 4 did not introduce another Zombies map. It will likely also be the last such addition to the game, given both Treyarch’s wording and the approaching release of Black Ops 7 later this year. The official Season 5 announcement on Twitter didn’t mention any specifics about Zombies or other updates, but fans can learn more firsthand before long.
Looking beyond Black Ops 6, the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise still lacks a release date, but an August 17 deep dive should clarify things. It’s rumored that Black Ops 7 may release on November 14, which would give players plenty of time to enjoy Season 5 of the current generation before moving on to the next. In any case, new Call of Duty content is arriving shortly in one form or another, and many are excited to see if the new content will be able to improve the game’s current image.
