Activision Comments on Call of Duty Hackers Kicking Players From Lobbies

Call of Duty maker Activision has reportedly addressed a hack that allowed cheaters to kick other players from match lobbies, saying that a “full-scale investigation” is now underway. The latest hacking issue is one of many ways malicious players have troubled the online modes in Call of Duty.

With numerous players joining its online matches every day, Call of Duty is one of the most popular IPs in gaming right now. Whether it be the franchise’s free-to-play offering, Warzone, or a mainline title, fans have consistently flocked to COD‘s multiplayer modes. Black Ops 6, the latest entry in the series, saw a gargantuan launch in October 2024, registering the best start for a COD game ever. Along with this massive success, Treyarch and Raven Software’s FPS title has also experienced major cheating issues since its launch. One of the more worrying of those issues involves a cheat tool that lets hackers oust players from Call of Duty‘s lobbies.

As shared by CharlieIntel, Activision commented on reports of the aforementioned cheat, revealing that the viral video that showed the tool in action is from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s beta version and that the issue has since been “fixed.” Regardless, it has reportedly begun investigating new clips sharing this problem, while simultaneously running a “detailed examination” to check if the measures previously taken to fix the issue were bypassed. Apart from the team behind the Ricochet anti-cheat system, Activision is also leveraging its “other teams, including legal” to combat interference from cheaters in what the gaming giant describes as an “attack” on the issue from “from all angles.”

Activision’s Discusses Its Ongoing Efforts to Contain Cheating in Call of Duty

The latest move from Activision to tackle the cheat tool is one of the many instances where Call of Duty devs have emphasized their prompt approach against foul play. Back in January, Treyarch gave an overview of its efforts on that front, revealing the banning of over 36,000 cheaters since Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 kicked off its Ranked Play mode. With the game’s new season that began on January 28, 2025, the devs further introduced new ways to detect cheaters, such as improved client and server-side detections.

While Call of Duty‘s anti-cheat team has had its hands full, the devs creating new content have also been busy, securing a range of interesting collaborations. After partnering with popular IPs, such as Terminator and Squid Game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed content is rumored to be coming to Call of Duty in the near future.
